Derelict Juhu Beach Space Becomes Mumbai’s First Seaside Pet-Park

Mumbai: An ignored space along the Juhu beach has been transformed into a brand-new pet park for residents and pet parents of the city. This space was neglected for the better part of this decade; however, with the new pet park now open, pets and pet parents can enjoy a day out by the seaside.

Work on the project began in September, with the park now featuring slides for pets and plans for regular ramp shows and vaccination camps. This will also offer an opportunity for pets and pet parents to come together and connect with each other.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit inaugurated the new pet park, noting the enthusiasm among those gathered to witness the opening. "It clearly showed why such an open space was needed for the locality," he said.

Residents and the BMC are tasked with the daily running of the park, said Mehjabeen Barwani, Secretary of the Juhu ALM. This new park is also Mumbai’s first beach-facing park, which is a welcome addition to a neighbourhood known to be pet-friendly. "We have plans to keep a fridge as well where food for stray dogs can be kept. However, we will all meet and decide the nitty-gritties in the days to come," she said.

Local MLA Ameet Satam pushed the initiative, noting how the garden area was used as a dumping ground and a popular spot for anti-social elements. "Now, it has been converted into a pet park, which was much needed in this locality. The pets can come here, play, and spend time at the park," he said.
